Genealogy. An Old English word for it was folctalu, literally “folk tale.” Meaning “study of family trees” is from 1768.
Why I Trace Our Roots
For me, genealogy isn’t just about dates on a page—it’s about the stories that make us who we are. My obsession (the good kind!) started at my Grandma England’s feet, listening to her proud tales of our Kentucky ancestors.
On my mom’s side, the history went back even further, reaching into the Revolutionary War. My Clinton and Taylor relatives were dedicated historians who did things the "hard way"—traveling to dusty archives and typing out family books and information on actual typewriters!
I’ve been officially on the hunt since 2010. While I have deep respect for the hand-written research of the past, my background in software engineering means I love bringing new tools to the table. Whether I’m using the latest tech to organize data or playing with AI to help write narratives and "time-travel" through generated photos (like seeing myself as a Colonial American!), I’m always looking for the next piece of the puzzle.
The best part of genealogy is the "aha!" moment when a mystery is solved—and those moments are better when shared. I built this site specifically to find like-minded family members like you.
